Leo Gabin

Awesome

October 26, 2017 – December 17, 2017

Artist collective Leo Gabin (consisting of Lieven Deconinck, Gaëtan Begerem, and Robin De Vooght) redefines the tradition of found-object art by harvesting and recycling digital content into new configurations. Working across video, digital media, drawing, print, painting, and sculpture, they fashion their work directly from the internet’s unending proliferation of social networking content and images of celebrities, sex, and violence, often physically incorporating printed or downloaded content into their practice.

The group samples audio from amateur tutorial and confessional videos found on Youtube. Minute but signature moments such as the smacking of lips, are repeated and played as beats.

Established 2000, based in Ghent, Belgium.
Produced by Daata Editions, Courtesy Peres Project, Berlin.
