Elizabeth Atterbury’s work is motivated by her absorption in abstraction within painting and sculpture. Working primarily with paper, wood, and clay, Atterbury first establishes the basic foundation of a particular composition, and then proceeds to arrange, rearrange, add, and remove individual forms based on how the composition appears as seen through the camera.

Elizabeth Atterbury has participated in group exhibitions at Heaven Gallery in Chicago, and KANSAS and Bodega in New York. She has been the subject of recent solo exhibitions at the Colby College Art Museum, Document in Chicago, and kijidome in Boston. Monographs of her work have been published by Colby College, titled currents7: Elizabeth Atterbury, and In the Middle, An Oasis was published by Bodega Press in 2013. Atterbury holds a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She lives and works in Portland, ME.
