Bios

Atlanta Shakespeare Company

With each production from the late 80’s until 1999, ASC’s core aesthetic became a little clearer.
What emerged over time was a company of artists dedicated to a radically pure approach to the text. Each syllable is examined and reexamined for clues as to form, meaning, and original intent. What’s more, ASC actors actively embraced the heart and soul of the Elizabethan Theater: the active relationship between actor and audience.
Since the opening of The Shakespeare Tavern® Playhouse on Peachtree Street in 1990, ASC has produced Shakespeare’s entire 39 play canon plus over 20 period classics by the likes of Aristophanes, G.B Shaw, Mrs. Aphra Behn, Jean Racine, Christopher Marlowe, Jean Anouilh, Ryunosuke Akutagwa, Niccolo Machiavelli, Albert Camus, Jean Genet, Tennessee Williams, Moliere, Bertolt Brecht, Jean Cocteau, and Thornton Wilder and a handful of fun musicals such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Cabaret and Hamlet, The Musical!.
In 1995 ASC was honored to be the first American company to perform on the stage of Shakespeare’s Globe in London, England.

Laura Cole

Laura decided on a career in acting when she performed her first Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for Athens Creative Theatre under Tom Kidd. She went on to perform many shows with ACT, and her high school drama department. Laura received her Bachelor’s of Science in Acting from Northwestern University. In addition to her training in classical theatre, while at NU she received the Young Choreographer’s Prize her senior year for her choreography work in the Dance Program under Lynne Blom and Susan Lee.
Laura has made her acting career performing professionally in Atlanta. She has worked as a professional actor for many companies, including The Academy Theatre, Actor’s Express, The Alliance Theatre, Art Attack, The Georgia Shakespeare Festival, Jewish Theatre Of The South, Theatre Gael, Theatre In The Square, 7 Stages and, of course, The Shakespeare Tavern.
