Join Makiko Maekawa for a fun and creative community art event designed especially for kids!
Kids will be working together to create a large and beautiful weaving art piece that will be on display in Atlanta Contemporary’s next Exhibition, opening on October 24th. The weaving project invites young artists to explore their creativity and work together to create a vibrant, collaborative piece of art—a beautiful tapestry designed to foster and highlight how community togetherness can create something beautiful.
This is a drop-in event. Doors open at 12 pm and visitors may begin the project any time until 2 pm.
Makiko believes kids have magical power in creativity and imagination. She is originally from Japan and studied photography in Baltimore, MD. As a child she learned that art is universal language that allows kids express their power. She currently lives in Atlanta and creates art in mixed media including photographic images.

We kick off the new year with a performance art event with Allen Peterson and Friends in which crews of sculptors melt scrap iron and pour it into reusable molds to form bird-sized honeybee forms. Like puppets, these bees “fly” through the night in formations inspired by the dance-based language honeybees use to communicate and cooperate inside the hive.

Join us for an artist talk celebrating Georgia Women to Watch 2026: A Book Arts Revolution, an exhibition that explores the book as an artistic medium. Featuring five innovative Georgia artists, the exhibition examines how contemporary women artists are expanding the structural, conceptual, and political possibilities of book-based art.
Curated by Cynthia Nourse Thompson, this exhibition is part of the Women to Watch series, a collaboration between the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Georgia Committee of NMWA. Featured Artists: Cynthia Lollis, Eileen Wallace, Eliza Bentz, Hannah Israel, and Serena Perrone
