January 19, 2017 – February 5, 2017
Atlanta Contemporary presents artist Rob Matthews in our Sliver Space, located next to our main galleries.
The Sliver Space allows Atlanta Contemporary to be quickly responsive to the needs of our community. These nimble exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, cocktail hours, and site-specific installations will last a night, a week, or a month at the longest. These exhibitions by local, national, and international artists will open the Contemporary up to new perspectives that echo the world we live in.
Rob Matthews lives and works in Nashville, TN. He explores contemporary social and political issues through allegory, symbolism, and the human figure. The paintings are filled with references to music, art, history, religion, or contemporary issues. He received his MFA in painting and printmaking from the Virginia Commonwealth University and his BFA in painting from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He is a two-time winner of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship award and also won the Pew Fellowship in the Arts award in 2009. Matthews has public and private collections showcased in the North Carolina Museum of the Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of the Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the de Young Museum.
