Catbox Contemporary was founded by artist, Philip Hinge, in February of 2017. The gallery is based in Hinge’s cat’s 80-inch tall cat tree in his apartment in Ridgewood, NY. Catbox Contemporary exercises its irregular premise to create impactful and subversive exhibitions by artists from New York and abroad. To date, Catbox has held a rotating program every 6-8 weeks, while also having satellite Catboxes in a variety of venues outside of the apartment, including; Hot Wheels Projects (Athens, Greece), The Artist Institute (New York, NY), the Felix Art Fair (Los Angeles, CA), and Alyssa Davis Gallery (New York, NY).
