Emily M. Getsay
Emily M. Getsay (Em) is a queer and non-binary, conceptual Artist, Activist, and Curator. As a conceptual artist, their pieces stem from ideas that expand oneself through a relatable and textual lens. They explore the liminal space between perception and reality to create work that translates those ideas. As humans, we accept new information and try to comprehend how we can apply it to our lives while moving through time and space. Em brings those ideas and knowledge to the surface to become transferable across cultures and society.Em is an MFA Candidate in Photography at Georgia State University.
Em’s first Solo Exhibition: The IN-between debuted in 2019 at The Bakery, Atlanta. In addition to their solo exhibition, their work has been a part of exhibitions at Emory University, The Atlanta Contemporary, Gallery 874, and many more. They have curated exhibitions at the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Sycamore Place Gallery and many other locations in Georgia. They have also been featured in publications such as ARTS ATL, Georgia Voice, Wussy Magazine, The CNN Freedom Project, and others. They were the President of the Women’s Caucus for Art of Georgia from 2017 to 2020, and currently, they are the Founder and Chair of the LGBTQIA + Caucus of the National Women’s Caucus for Art.
As an Artist, Curator, and Activist, Emily M. Getsay continues to make bold strides in creating access to Art the forefront of their mission and purpose. Their purpose lies within creating space for LGBTQIA+ folks and other marginalized folks through Art.
