Walter Matthews (b. 1986) is an artist and instructor living and working in Tampa, FL. He received his BFA in painting from the Ringling College of Art and Design and his MFA from the University of South Florida in 2017. His work has recently been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Tempus Projects in Tampa, FL (2019), the Art Center of Sarasota (2019), Coco Hunday in Tampa, FL (2018), and Portspace Gallery in Gulfport, FL (2017), as well as several group exhibitions including Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, FL (2017). His work has also been featured in New American Paintings (2017). Matthews attended the artist residency program at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in 2017 and was the first artist-in-residence at Coco Hunday. This fall, he will be exhibiting in Hillsborough Community College’s MAZEgallery on the Ybor City Campus.
