Opening for ART PARTY 2017 - August 26, 7pm-midnight*

ATLANTA—July 19 – Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (Atlanta Contemporary) is pleased to announce a solo exhibition with Agnieszka Polska.

As the picture begins to sway and rock in Agnieszka Polska’s The Leisure Time of a Firearm, 2015, we hope for a steady hand. We do not blink as we gaze upon the ultimate stalemate – a pupil literally stares down the barrel of a gun. Despite being on the edge of tremendous violence, the eye remains steady and offers no emotion; excitement and anxiety are brought to the table by us. The action starts slow, deliberate, then the image swells and rolls, before coming to a near stop. Order appears to restore itself. The oscillations nearly stop but then, we are hit by a flurry of movement. The indefinable stress takes us away from our consciousness, our own steadiness.

Agnieszka Polska (b. 1985, Lublin, Poland) lives and works in Berlin. Solo exhibitions have been organized by the New Museum in New York, the National Gallery in Prague, Nottingham Contemporary in the UK, and the Salzburger Kunstverein in Austria. Polska’s work has been included in exhibitions and screenings at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington DC, the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the 19th Biennale of Sydney, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the 13th Istanbul Biennial, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. Last year Polska’s work was featured in the 11th Gwangju Biennale in Korea and at the High Line in New York. Polska’s work is currently included in the 57th Venice Biennale.
